Home > Nicaraguan Swings
All of the hammocks and swings on NicaSwings.com are handmade by these eight artisans living in Project Chacocente. Relocating from the Managua city dump, they built homes for themselves and each other, learned farming techniques, how to read and write and agreed to send their children to school, with the goal of providing a better life for themselves and their children. They were taught trades and each family earned the deed to their land and their house. Making hammocks is one of the trades they have learned to help support their families. Their hammocks are brought to the states by mission teams visiting Project Chacocente. Your purchase helps support these amazing artisans, their families and the Chacocente Christian School. Following the principles of fair trade, the artisans are paid a fair wage for their work and all profits are returned to the artisans and their local non-profit school. This website is donated so every penny can be returned to their community. You can read more about each artisan in the hammock descriptions.
